Fix CRM hygiene before you add more automations

Automating a junk-drawer CRM multiplies the junk. Here is the field and pipeline discipline we require before sequences go live.

Every company wants more sequences. Few want to delete fields. Then the sequence fires on a contact whose lifecycle stage is blank, whose owner left in 2024, and whose last activity was a bounced email. Automation does not create order. It amplifies the model you already have.

Before we turn on marketing or sales automation, we lock a source of truth for: lifecycle, owner, pipeline, and consent. We hide unused fields. We map historical values so reports do not lie. This is unglamorous and it is the work.

Pipelines should be few. If you have twelve stages because someone liked the words, reporting will never match reality. Stages must be exit-criteria, not moods.

Integrations should write through APIs with idempotent keys so the same form submit cannot create three contacts. Duplicate rules are part of go-live, not a later cleanup project.

Once the object is trustworthy, sequences, WhatsApp, and AI drafts become safe. Until then, we will decline to “just add a drip.” AutoFy Tech’s job is a system your operations lead will defend in a meeting, not a pile of Zaps that nobody dares to touch.
