Build an MVP that can take payment — or you built a prototype

Founders confuse polish with learning. AutoFy Tech’s rule: v1 should complete one paid or waitlisted journey with analytics attached.

An MVP is not a smaller version of the dream product. It is the smallest path that lets a real buyer do a real job and tells you whether they will come back. If nobody can pay, book, or join a waitlist that triggers a workflow, you have a prototype. Prototypes are useful. They are not a company.

Cut scope by persona. One user, one job, one success event in analytics. Design should be trustworthy — spacing, type, empty states — not a brand system that delays the first Stripe test charge.

Integrations are where MVPs go to die. Each third party is a product decision. If you can record the result manually for the first ten customers, do that, then automate. AutoFy Tech’s automation practice exists partly so founders do not over-build software for a workflow that n8n could run this week.

SEO is optional on day one for a logged-in tool and mandatory for a marketing site that must be found. Do not generate fifty blog posts before the product can onboard. Do ship clean metadata and a fast landing page; you will thank yourself when you start content in earnest.

Plan the second slice before you celebrate the first. The second slice is usually billing edge cases, team invites, or the integration you postponed. Write it down so the MVP does not quietly become an infinite v1.
